Title: Coming Out of the Ice: An Unexpected Life By Victor Herman
Author: Victor Herman
Summary: This Story is an intriguing tale of a man who grew up in Michigan. He loved everything about it. Then his family was sent to move to the U.S.S.R. for his father’s job. He (Herman) becomes a national hero in the Soviet Union parachute jumping out of planes. He held many records. Very unexpectedly, he is held hostage by the dictatorship government controlled by Stalin. Throughout the book, he explains all the many trials he went through such as: starvation, beatings, the extreme cold, and unbearable working conditions. By the end of the book you can barely believe that he survived. This is a very interesting book and it is hard to put down.

Rating (1-10, with 10 being best:   I would definitely rate this book at a 10. Although it is kind of long, it keeps you interested the whole way. It is written in a very personal format. You get to go inside his thoughts and almost experience what he went through. It makes you appreciate what you have.
